2024 Kia EV9 vs 2024 Volvo EX90

2024 Kia EV9

Kia has been knocking it out of the park when it comes to the electrified market, to the point where the company's EVs are becoming more sought-after over other brands like Volvo. The team at Kia of Bedford is here to show you a prime example by comparing the new 2024 Kia EV9 and the 2024 Volvo EX90. For electrified Kia vehicles near you, shop our new inventory online!

2024 Kia EV9 vs 2024 Volvo EX90

You don't need to break the bank to enjoy a fun and efficient EV, and that's the point we're going to prove to you in this comparison. The new Volvo EX90 starts as high as $77,990 which makes it unattainable to many, but the latest Kia EV9 starts at a much lower $54,900 in an effort to reach out to more people. Does the lower price affect the overall quality? We don't believe so, not in the least bit. Take a look for yourself:

Performance

If you've already heard of the greatness that the E-GMP platform is capable of, you'll be thrilled to know that that's what you're getting in the new Kia EV9. Thanks to this intuitive platform, the standard model can get you up to 215 horsepower with the higher-tiered model bringing you up to 379 horsepower. Depending on the EV9 you choose, the maximum range goes anywhere from 230 to 304. But what we're even more impressed with is the competitive charge time of 10-80% in just 24 minutes on a DC fast charger, an area that many new EVs struggle with. Every minute of your day is precious which is why this detail makes all the difference. Fun fact: The Kia EV9's E-GMP platform is so powerful that it can tow up to 5,000 pounds!

The only true advantage that the Volvo EX90 has over the EV9 is slightly more horsepower, with the Twin Motor AWD trim bringing in 402 and the available performance model extending that to 496. That may seem impressive to some, but if the point of getting an all-electric vehicle is to save time and money, then the EV9 is still the better choice. The EX90 can only supply up to 298 miles of range, and getting from 10-80% on a DC fast charger will take as long as half an hour.

Safety Features

Your safety is another area where the new Kia EV9 clearly excels. It comes with 25 collision-avoidance and driver-assist features standard which almost sounds too good to be true, but with Kia, anything is possible. All of your favorite features also get a much-anticipated sequel like Lane Following Assist 2, Highway Driving Assist 2, and Remote Smart Parking Assist 2. You'll also receive the honor of experiencing Kia's latest generation of the Auto Emergency Braking feature for greater peace of mind during every drive. And now, Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist actively monitors all sides of your EV9 including the front, rear, and sides.

Can the new EX90 top Kia's 25 standard safety features? That is a resounding "no" as Volvo only included a simple lidar system in their electrified contender. This lidar system helps with the driver alert system, occupant sensor, and intersection collision assist, but that's not much to gloat over when Kia went all-out with the EV9.

Interior

The new EV9 may be a symbol of electrified perfection paired with a truckload of safety features, but Kia didn't forget to give you the best experience as a fun and comfortable SUV despite modern technological advances. Second-row captain's chairs are still a welcome upgrade, especially when upscaled to lounge seats with leg extensions that make the most out of the expansive 42.8-inch legroom in the front and rear. And speaking of extensions, Kia expanded the screen situation in the EV9 to span roughly 30 inches with a dual 12.3-inch infotainment and driver display setup and a 5-inch climate display for your convenience, not to mention the 12-inch head-up display.

What normally attracts people to SUVs is their size, and that's one area that the EX90 falls behind in. While the new Kia EV9 has a maximum of 81.7 cubic feet of cargo with the rear seats down, the EX90 can only offer up to 67.63 which can be an unfortunate obstacle in countless scenarios like moving, packing, shopping, and so on. The EX90 may have a large 14.5-inch infotainment display, but overall, the EV9 still offers more screen space since the EX90's driver display is only 9 inches and the EV9 includes an extra climate control screen into the mix.

Bottom Line

For an all-electric SUV that caters to your every need, the 2024 Kia EV9 has the means to be the perfect road companion with ample power, tons of safety features, and a practical interior. On the other hand, the Volvo EX90 is much more expensive with less payout, defeating the purpose of going all-electric in the first place.
