2024 Kia EV6 vs 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5
Coming out the same year as the ever-popular IONIQ 5, the new 2024 Kia EV6 is already pushing the limits of what we know about all-electric vehicles while leaving its competitor in the dust. Step into the new age of driving with an EV that’s geared up to deliver an exceptional EV experience that you’ll never forget. We think it’s about time that Hyundai stepped off the mantle to make way for the new standard of what an EV should be in today’s world.
Performance
As far as horsepower and charge times go, the EV6 and IONIQ 5 are practically identical. However, Kia optimized the EV6’s electric powertrain to strive even higher by offering more miles and sporty handling. You can get up to 310 miles of range in the Kia EV6 on a full charge, and during the winter, the built-in heat pump will help you preserve even more miles. Like the IONIQ 5, the EV6 can also get from 10-80% in roughly 18 minutes on an ultra-fast DC charger. Moving on to the sportiness of the driving experience, the new EV6 is built with a low center of gravity and a multi-link rear suspension system for incredible handling. Upgrade to the available dual-motor platform with torque-vectoring e-AWD to enhance your acceleration and grip on the road for a smooth and dynamic drive!

Both the IONIQ 5 and EV6 offer a standard motor of 167-168 horsepower, an upgraded 225-horsepower platform, and a performance-based 320-HP platform. The only difference is that the 2024 Kia EV6 has a fourth option: 576 horsepower in the EV6 GT model. That means Kia has been planning the EV6 with actual sport in mind, while Hyundai decided to leave their prized IONIQ 5 as-is for inevitable outdatedness. Their inability to offer any more than 303 miles of range which was where the IONIQ 5 started while competitors have since surpassed is just proof of their willingness to go higher.
Safety Features
It’s no secret that the EV6 has all-electric capabilities in the bag, but how does it fare in safety? Kia included a great many features in the EV6, from your baseline collision avoidance systems to the more intuitive remote smart parking functions. Honestly, even the most basic features have had some sort of facelift in the EV6 like auto emergency braking which now has evasive steering assist which can help those with slower reaction times. The blind-spot view monitor also comes in handy with real-time visuals if you tend to have issues checking your sides.
Hyundai SmartSense has been the extensive safety and driver-assist package that people like to rave about, but like the range cap, we have seen little to no changes in the lineup since the IONIQ 5’s initial release. For instance, the evasive steering function in the EV6 could potentially save lives which is something that’s not featured in the IONIQ 5. At the very least, you’ll know that you have your basics.
Interior
Interior features are always nice to have, but many manufacturers are often too focused on managing these features and forget what’s really important like the structure of the cabin itself. The 2024 Kia EV6 has that part down, and you can notice it immediately when getting in and out of the vehicle. Adding that extra bit of headroom and crafting out a flat floor goes a long way in extended use. The EV6 makes the most use of its extra space by offering a hidden cargo compartment under the center console for easy access. Heated and ventilated seating is just another treat to an already sweet ride.
Hyundai spent so much time on the materialistic aspect of designing the IONIQ 5 that the layout itself doesn’t feel as well thought-out compared to the EV6. You can even see it in some of the marketing, like the Disney-themed model which costs $6k more than the preceding Platinum model just for the addition of D100 logos and badges inside and out. Talk about an expensive marketing ploy! If you want a practical ride and not just something made for show, you’ll be better off with the EV6 which was actually made with your convenience and comfort in mind.
Bottom Line
Buckle up for a real EV experience without the gimmicks in the new 2024 Kia EV6! With a reasonable and practical contender finally entering the market, you no longer have to worry about overpaying for something that you don’t need. The EV6 offers tremendous value regardless of the trim you choose. You can’t go wrong!
