2024 Kia Telluride vs 2024 Chevrolet Traverse

Both of our contenders certainly have the looks. A bold and aggressive front fascia, satisfyingly smooth curves, and striking colors that are enough to get anyone’s heart racing at first glance. But it’s what's on the inside that counts, and the latest Telluride definitely has it where it counts. Incredible torque and 17 standard safety features are just a couple of the many changes in the latest model that make it one of the most accommodating midsize SUVs we’ve seen this year. Check it out:

Performance

Right off the bat, we’re excited to introduce you to the new Telluride’s massive 3.8L V6 engine, giving you up to 291 horsepower and an unbelievable towing capacity of 5,500 pounds. This is the standard on all models, and it just gets even better. The Telluride is built with a self-leveling rear suspension system, paving the way for seamless driving on every adventure. Smooth handling is already something to celebrate, but we also have to point out the Telluride’s amazing fuel rating of 20/26 which is quite an achievement considering its powerful capabilities.

The Traverse’s 2.5L Turbo engine can bring you up to 328 horsepower which sounds impressive until you find out that this ride is unfortunately a one-trick pony. High HP is about all the Traverse has going for it compared to the Telluride which is designed for optimal handling without you needing to put in any extra thought.

Safety Features

We mentioned earlier that the latest Telluride offers 17 standard safety features, and we meant it. Kia Drive Wise has always been the standard in newer Kias, but the Telluride received special treatment with a long list of advanced collision avoidance and other driver-assist features. If that wasn’t enough, you can choose to include optional safety tech such as:

  • Full Display Mirror: Look past your backseat passengers with external cameras that give you a digital view of your rear when friendly heads are blocking your sight.
  • Surround View Monitor: There are external cameras all around the Telluride, providing you with a 360 view of your surroundings and confident maneuverability.
  • Blind-Spot View Monitor: Conquer the trickiest angle of your drive with additional support in your blind spot.

Chevy Safety Assist is good, but it’s not “17 standard features” good. When it comes to the Traverse, you’ll only have a limited handful of driver-assist features like automatic braking, rear cross-traffic alert, lane assist, and seatbelt warnings. These are all things that can be found in vehicles dating back the last few years while Kia continues to trek into the future and write history.

Interior

Kia’s theme for 2024 is high-tech everything, and the Telluride is no exception. You can upgrade your arsenal with available 12.3-inch dual screens and a 10-inch HUD, plus the available 10-speaker Harman Kardon setup. Feeling right at home in your Telluride is easy with dual-zone climate control, dual sunroofs, and Nappa leather trim with heating and ventilation. But of course, the Telluride is famously known for having up to 87 cubic feet of cargo space which makes the impossible possible. You can amp up the atmosphere with laminated glass and a quiet zone interior with noise suppression so nothing can disrupt your fun.

The Telluride is fully decked out in everything you could possibly want, but the same can’t be said for the Traverse. Yet another victim of gimmicky marketing tactics, the Traverse boasts a larger-than-average 17.7-inch infotainment screen while ignoring every other aspect that makes a great interior. When your chairs are ordinary and your space is limited, that big screen won’t seem as impressive as the day you bought it.

Bottom Line

The 2024 Telluride had such a major upgrade just this year, that it’s no wonder it’s an award-winning Kia model. It’s already popular for having incredible looks and a lower cost, but everything that you can find under the hood and throughout the cabin makes your decision even easier. The Traverse doesn’t come with nearly as much other than a heftier price tag.
