What is the Kia K4?

So what exactly is the Kia K4? Imagine the ever-popular K5 sedan in all its glory, but shrunken into a more compact size. Of course, that's oversimplifying it. Yes, the K4 is smaller, but it's different on many more levels. Let's go over the exterior and interior dimensions real quick before getting into the other specifics.

Kia K4

  • 185.4 inches in length
  • 72.8 inches in width

Kia K5

  • 193.1 inches in length
  • 73.2 inches in width

The Kia K4 Has More Backseat Space

The Kia K5 is larger, but the interior space is more suitable for the front row. That's not a problem if you like driver-centric cars, but if you'd prefer to offer more stretch space in the back for your beloved passengers, then the K4 is the way to go.

Kia K4

  • 37.3 inches of second-row headroom
  • 38 inches of second-row legroom
  • 14.6 cubic feet of cargo space

Kia K5

  • 37.8 inches of second-row headroom
  • 35.2 inches of second-row legroom
  • 15.6 cubic feet of cargo space

It makes sense that the Kia K5 would have more trunk space considering its extended length and width, but details are yet to come for the Kia K4's hatchback cargo dimensions which are sure to surpass its regular trunk size.

The Kia K5 Is Still More Powerful

Comparing dimensions is nice, but there's more to the new K4 that we want to talk about. The powertrain is next on the agenda. The base engine for the K4 is a 2.0L putting out 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. Upgrade to the 1.6L GT-Line Turbo, and the K4 can deliver up to 190 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. Even built on a CVT, the K4 has a 0-60 score of 8 seconds.

The latest K5 received a couple of major changes in the engine department for the 2025 model year. For starters, the base engine is now 2.5L with 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. Like the K4, the new 2025 K5 also has a GT engine option: a 2.5L Turbo capable of 290 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.

Power may be in favor of the K5, but the K4's smaller stature makes it better equipped for improved mileage on the freeway:

Kia K4

  • 30 in-city MPG
  • 40 highway MPG

Kia K5

  • 33 in-city MPG
  • 37 highway MPG
